Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Released from Hospital in Nigeria Following Fatal Car Crash
Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday evening. The fighter was caught in a vehicular crash near Lagos on December 29th, a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two of his team members.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
Joshua had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his promoter confirmed on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on X that Joshua was judged healthy enough to leave and heal privately.
“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two friends who passed away as they were being readied to be sent home,” the commissioner stated.
Remembering the Victims
Those who lost their lives were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the tragic loss of his two dear friends.”
The news of his discharge follows the boxing community shared sympathy for the star in the wake of the terrible crash.
