The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach another team on English soil. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter in my ear as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect at the club. Jota was killed in a vehicle collision with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Not a single person might employ it to justify results yet it's the reality. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
