Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a record ÂŁ11m in prize money.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
