Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

It said wreckage landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
