Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
