Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides more options for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
